With the new D'mala Shard, and the removal of the Kagi requirement, more people are able to get into UU. But what if you want to play UU, and also do your single-player game on the side? Or what if you want to develop a personal Age on the side? To prevent things from getting mixed up and crashing, you'll need to have multiple installations of Uru, and here's the easist way to do it.
1: Go to your Uru installation folder (usually C:Program FilesUbi SoftCyan WorldsUru - Ages Beyond Myst).
2: Rename your existing Uru installation folder (usually "Uru - Ages Beyond Myst") to something like "Uru - Single Player." Note that this will break any shortcuts to Uru you have in the Start menu or on the desktop, so you'll need to change those too. Right-click on the Uru shortcut, click on Properties, and change the "Uru - Ages Beyond Myst" in the Target path to the new name.
3: Put in your Uru CD and run the setup program. Since the setup doesn't detect any Uru installation at "Uru - Ages Beyond Myst," it will let you continue with the setup. During setup, you probably should change the installation directory from "Uru - Ages Beyond Myst" to something else (but different from your "Single Player" folder). Naming it "Untìl Uru" or "D'mala" would be best. (Editorial note: If you have a partitioned hard drive, placing this second install in a seperate drive from the first, as well as renaming the folder, can help eliminate confusing the two.)
4: Once done with the installation, follow the instructions on Cyan's Getting Started page. When installing the client patch, make sure to change the directory to the folder you want to use for UU.
And that's it! At the end of this tutorial, you should have two Uru installations -- your original one for your single-player adventures, and a new fresh installation for UU. If you have questions, contact me at gadren@gmail.com.
